 El Fossil on MySPaCe

We managed to get up with Aaron and his new fiance and band mate Kate (cool fuckin people) of El Fossil at their show/engagement party this past Thursday at 529 to ask them a few questions. El Fossil is about a year old (as of beginning '09) and is Aaron on Guitar; Thirty Cent (who got is name when he caught a stray bullet in the leg - yes its true) on Bass; Kate on Drums and Kenny on Guitar as well. Aaron and Kenny have been playing guitar now for eleven years. The band met each other just while hanging around town and making friends and networking. I asked Aaron and Kate what they thought of the Atlanta music scene in general. They said they like it a lot and loved how hard bands and artists in the scene work to get their stuff out there. He did agree with the recent creative loafing article though and said that a lot of the time a band from Atlanta will have to tour in other cities to truly get their stuff heard and build a large fanbase...and also added that he thinks "too many people are just looking for a fashion show and trying to show of their scenester good looks rather than actually support the scene...and beatlanta couldn't agree more...hence us starting this site.

Some might remember El Fossil from back in the day when they ran the Crackhouse. A house where many shows were played until the cops got annoyed (fuckers). Now adays you can find them playing venues around Atlanta such as Wonderroot and 529 (can anyone find us a good link to 529 - email it beatlanta@gmail.com). They like to tour to surrounding areas as well. They said they don't like to play too many shows because they don't want to over do it intown so you gotta catch them the next time you have a chance...and be prepared to move. Check 'em out below...

When asked what Atlanta bands they wanted us to check out they had a lot to name; Hawks, Club of Rome King Congregation and Devil Worshipper were just a few. These guys seem pretty ingrained in the Atlanta scene. They use mostly word of mouth and rely on their friends and fans in other bands to get the news out there about their shows and music. They themselves listen to everything from Smoky Robinson to Jimi Hendrix and they named off quite a bit of rap music as well. I asked them if they would be willing to play shows with rappers and they said yes; so be looking for that - we're gonna try to set that shit up....and mix it up a little. El Fossil describes themself as Surf Rock, Metal and Thrash...yup.
